About this Service

Our Aim

Our goal is to protect the rights of children and the continued connection with the tribe by assisting tribes with specially tailoring the tribal customary order to the circumstances and ensure it is legally enforceable.

How We Will Help

We will create policies, procedures and law around a tribe’s process for establishing a tribal customary adoption. In situations where family reunification isn’t possible, we will advocate in state court for the tribal customary adoption to be made permanent. Our services will include informing any potential options and avenues for establishing a tribal customary adoption order such as petitioning the tribal court for an order, bringing the matter before tribal council, or having the tribal social worker prepare and approve the order.
