Community Presentations and Education CILS provides tribal community educational presentations on a variety of topics.

Cultural Resources (Native American remains, artifacts, and sacred sites) Materials on what a landowner must do when discovering Native American artifacts or human remains on their property.

Economic Development “Forming an Economic Development Entity” training materials including formation options, the pros and cons of certain tribal entity formations, development opportunities, and evaluating business proposals. CILS is available to provide this training to tribes upon request.

Graduation Cultural Regalia Students have the right to wear traditional tribal regalia at school graduation ceremonies.

Indian Ancestry Materials on how an adult adoptee can petition a court to unseal their birth records where there is evidence the adoptee has Native American ancestry. Download the “Tracing CA Indian Ancestry” packet for tips.

Indian Child Welfare Act (general information impacting parents and children)  Materials relating to:

1. How a relative who is caring for a family member’s child can enroll the child in school and obtain medical care for the child.

2. How the federal ICWA is applied by a state court in Indian child custody proceedings and how “Indian child” is defined.

3. Defining what an “Indian Custodian” is and their role under the Indian Child Welfare Act.
