The 56th celebration of California Native American Day on Friday, September 22nd is right around the corner! This year’s event theme is “Protecting Our People Through Sovereignty: Past, Present, and Future,” an excellent way to commemorate tribal traditions while reflecting on the history and heritage of our ancestors. Our team is excited to spend the day on the West Steps of the California Capitol, where we can connect with and honor our community.
Our in-person CILS Board of Trustees Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and everyone is invited to join. You can find more information about the event on our website. If you are unable to attend, we would love to see you at the Tribal Leaders Forum, where we will celebrate all California Tribes and their significant contributions to culture and sovereignty.
CILS, as always, will have an informational table at the California Native American Day event. We cordially invite all attendees to come by and meet our team. We can connect you with Intake Specialists, as well as Directing Attorneys from each of our regional office locations, and the CILS Leadership Team. We will be available to answer any questions regarding federal Indian law, and we will also have handouts on our services, programs, and exciting projects that benefit California’s First People.
Additionally, we have some fantastic CILS items to distribute at our table! These items will showcase our newly designed logo by Yurok artist Carl Avery. And if that were not enough, we will have a limited supply of vintage CILS merchandise available! If you are attending, make sure to stop by and say hello.
We are eagerly anticipating California Native American Day and the opportunity to meet with the members of our community whom we proudly serve. These types of events are what inspire our staff and our mission. We are thrilled to celebrate tribal communities, connect with other Native organizations, and enjoy some tasty Indian Tacos!
