SB 678 Passes in the
Senate Judiciary Committee SB 678 was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee on August 23, 2005 by a vote of 5 in favor, 1 opposed (Ackerman) and 1 abstention (Morrow). The bill is scheduled for a vote before the Senate Committee on Appropriations on August 25, 2005. The goal is to have the bill voted on by the Senate before the legislative session ends on September 9, 2005, and then have it go before the Assembly when the Legislature reconvenes on January 4, 2006. Despite this initial success, there is still a critical need for supporters to apply their efforts to the passage of this bill. Please continue to submit letters or resolutions in support of the bill and contact your local Senators and Assembly members to urge their support for the bill. Since the Senate will be voting on the bill some time between August 29 and September 9, it is important that you act quickly.
