I-CAN!™ EARNED INCOME CREDIT TAX MODULE
February 23, 2003

Brought to you by
Legal Aid Society of Orange County
and
California Indian Legal Services

Low-Income Indians May Qualify for a Tax Refund.

The EIC is a special tax credit for people who earn low or moderate income. If you qualify for the EIC and file a federal tax return, you can get back some or all of the federal income tax that was taken out of your pay during the year. You may even get extra cash back from the IRS.

How Do I Find Out if I Can Get a Tax Refund?

Legal Aid Society of Orange County, by agreement with CILS, has an on-line program to help low income taxpayers complete their federal and California income tax returns for free! To find out if you qualify for the EIC, contact your local CILS office or click here to access the I-CAN!™ EIC Module (opens new window).

As a Native American, Do I Have to Pay State Income Tax?

If you are Indian, some or all of your income may be "exempt from" (do not have to pay) state income tax. Click here for more information about state income tax exemption.
